UU Climate Justice Revival

Childcare is available for all events. For the 9/28 event in Palo Alto, please include your request for childcare when you RSVP to revcat@uufs.org.

For the first time ever the entire UU ecosystem is organizing for climate justice action. We all know how desperate the situation is, but even those of us who have been climate and environmental activists for a long time feel powerless. But there is power in numbers, and thousands of UUs around the world are getting ready to join hands in September fora denominational Climate Justice Revival. Sponsored by the UUA, UUMFE, UUSC and other UU organizations—as well as our own leaders and thinkers on the subject—this Revival is designed to kick-start our activism and ongoing engagement in climate justice work.

  • Together we will create a complex representation of the challenging realities and liberatory possibilities for climate justice in our unique context
  • Develop a vision of a flourishing future
  • Identify a clear set of potential actions that we can take to realize this vision
  • Enable participants to understand their roles in the interdependent ecosystem of creating climate justice and collective liberation.

These kinds of things don’t happen often. Our churches all stand alone and apart. Collaboration is difficult, let alone a decision for every UU congregation to join in this Revival at the same time. We’ll all have the same materials, our leaders were trained with other UUs, and when it’s over, we’ll be part of the national conversation moving our climate work forward. It’s exciting just on the face of it, and the workshop itself is looking like a lot of fun.

UU the Vote: Partnering with Reclaim Our Vote and Vote Forward

UUFS is participating in non-partisan efforts to get out the vote in historically underrepresented communities for the important November election. We did a fantastic job of getting out the vote in 2022, and we are doing it again! While we have completed our letter- and postcard-writing events after the service, you can still participate by signing up on your own with Vote Forward (letters) and Reclaim Our Vote (postcards). Contact social.justice@uufs.org for further information.

Mailing dates:

  • Reclaim Our Vote:
    • Georgia and North Carolina: mail between September 15 and 30 due to serious postal delays.
    • Alabama, Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, Texas mail between October 1 and October 15.

  • Vote Forward: Mail as soon as Oct. 1 and no later than Oct. 29.

Social Justice and Climate Action Meetings

Our Social Justice and Climate Action program prioritizes support for our local community while also contributing to needs in the wider world. We welcome participation from all members and friends, be it joining a one-time event or committing to a project over time. The Social Justice/Climate Action Support Team provides logistical and mentorship support to the program. At this time, we typically meet on the third Thursday of the month via Zoom from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. All are welcome to join in discussing and planning our activities. The topic of each meeting will be in the UUFS monthly newsletter. For more information, email: social.justice@uufs.org.
