UUFS Outreach Programs
Our congregation has a non-religious fund from which we donate to nonprofits, mostly local, that align with our UU values. Matching donations from employers are the source of this fund. The non-profits currently approved for donations are:
- Lakewood and Vargas Elementary Schools Reading Programs. Both Sunnyvale schools serve a significant number of low-income children.
- Day Worker Center of Mountain View connects workers and employers in a supportive, safe environment and empowers workers.
- Asian Women’s Home, Asian Americans for Community Involvement, helps domestic violence and human trafficking survivors with varied services.
- Sunnyvale Community Services serves low-income people in Sunnyvale with donations of food basics and money grants to help people facing hardship.
- HomeFirst™ of Santa Clara County provides shelter as well as housing opportunities to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness.
- Billy DeFrank LGBTQ+ Community Center provides community, advocacy, services and support to Silicon Valley’s LGBTQ+ people and their allies.
- Services, Immigrant Rights, and Education Network (SIREN) empowers immigrants and refugees through education, policy advocacy and legal services.
- Amah Mutsun Land Trust enables the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band to access, protect and steward lands that are integral to their identity and culture.
- UU Social Justice Ministry of California promotes justice by connecting communities and empowering the voices of those who share UU values.
- 350 Silicon Valley mobilizes local residents for a speedy and just transition from fossil fuels and toward lower greenhouse gas emissions.
- Planned Parenthood strives to ensure all people have access to the care and resources they need to make informed decisions about their bodies, their lives, and their futures.
