Securing the Common Good

September 23, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Presenter Judy Passanante.
Jane Addams was a social reformer, pacifist, philanthropist, and feminist at the turn of the 20th century when industrialization in the United States brought great leaps in migration from Europe. Judy’s presentation, “Securing the Common Good”, expresses Addams’ belief that if you raise the ability of one person, you raise the ability of all. Addams’ contributions to human rights, peace and democracy were a reflection of an inner character that embraced a moral philosophy akin to Unitarian Universalist Principles. Themes of inclusion, universal and democratic fellowship and the importance of broadening perspectives and strengthening human connection will be explored.
Judy Passanante, a Pledging Friend of our Fellowship, has had a long career as a mental health professional. She has worked in a variety of settings, including with parents of special needs children, the working poor, and the homeless mentally ill. She is currently a Bay Area psychotherapist with a practice emphasis on positive aging and sleep wellness.
