Scout Sunday at UUFS

September 30, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Presenter Ross Beyer.
The Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the USA are separate organizations that might have more in common with UU values than you might think. In fact, many of our UU members are also members of these scouting organizations. Join us to learn more about these organizations, the history of how the BSA and the UUA were at odds and then came together, and the story of how one of our members struggled with the decision to allow his son to join at a time when the BSA values and UU values didn’t match as well as they do now.
Ross is a scientist and father, but was an Eagle Scout before either of those. He joined the Boy Scouts of America organization when his father (also an Eagle Scout) enrolled him in Cub Scouts as a five-year-old. He spent most of his youth involved with various aspects of the BSA, and then left it behind when he went to college, only to pick it back up again when his daughter joined Girl Scouts, and he had to decide whether his son should join Cub Scouts. He is currently the Cubmaster of Pack 462, which meets at the Cherry Chase school, near our Fellowship.
