“In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World”

Those are the words of Henry David Thoreau, whose legacy we celebrate this year – the 200th anniversary of his birth – a legacy that includes his influence on John Muir who wrote after reading Thoreau, “Civilization needs pure wildness.” This Sunday, we celebrate the wildness that these two men, along with Unitarian minister Thomas Starr King, helped to preserve for us.
