Creative Resilience

June 6, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Guest speaker, the Reverend Sonya Sukalski.

Many Unitarian Universalists exude a powerful love that moves us into the fullness of our spirits and integrity as Berkeley Process Theologian Bernie Loomer wrote about. In times of social stress and upheaval it is powerful and necessary to employ that love to marry the inevitable grief and loss that change brings, with learning, growth, and the intangible gifts we usually uncover in challenging times.

Our guest speaker, the Reverend Sonya Sukalski writes, “I have always been curious about how I and others think about what is most important in life, and followed this interest through studying Cognitive Linguistics and Germanic Languages in College back in the 1980s. This interest stemmed from a year as an exchange student in Sweden between high school and college where I was fascinated by how thought seemed to be influenced by language. Upon graduation from Rice University in Houston, I married my soul mate, Mitch, and moved back to my hometown of Los Alamos, NM. Twin daughters graced our family and became our focus over the next several years. In 2003 the family moved to Castro Valley where Mitch and I live with our adult daughter, Sierra. Sierra’s twin, Cheyenne, lives in Reno where she pursues her arts, and teaches Rope Access. I have served several congregations since 2008 as a Unitarian Universalist minister, most recently for 6 years with The Fellowship of Tuolumne County congregation in Sonora part time.
