A Gospel of Ignorance

June 2, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Guest Speaker Dr. Chris Schriner.
Thomas Edison once said, “We don’t know a millionth of one percent about anything.” Many UUs would agree, bringing a skeptical attitude to the supposed certainties of religion, psychology, politics, etc. We love to learn, and sometimes it seems as if the more we know, the more that we realize that we don’t know. But could admitting ignorance be a kind of gospel, in the sense that facing the limits of our knowledge could be “good news?” Could the knowledge of our ignorance be grounds for celebration?
This is the first of a two-part sermon series presented by Dr. Chris Schriner, who has spoken at our congregation several times. He is the Minister Emeritus of the Fremont UU congregation. He is also a retired psychotherapist and the author of six books, including “Do Think Twice: Provocative Reflections on Age-Old Questions” and “Bridging the God Gap: Finding Common Ground Among Believers, Atheists and Agnostics.” He’ll complete the series Sunday June 9th.
