These groups all support our Sunday services in a variety of ways. There are opportunities for additional volunteers in many of these areas. Please send an e-mail to the contact provided if you are interested in helping out. We would welcome your contribution! Thank you.
Worship Associates help plan the Sunday Services with the Minister and make sure that the service runs smoothly. There are a range of duties that need to be performed every Sunday. Many, like bringing out our chalice table and “setting the stage,” can be done in the background. Other roles, like passing the microphone or doing readings during the service are more public. Some Worship Associates even plan and lead services. The Worship Associate role is flexible and designed to grow with you. If you have any questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The UUFS Choir is a wonderful group of people who lift their voices in song to practice every Thursday night from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to join, no matter how much or little musical experience you have. We sing a variety of music both religious and secular. Please join us for fellowship in a loving, supportive environment. We’d love to have you make music with us! For more information contact any choir member or Alan Herrmann at email@example.com.
Are you interested in sound? Our Audio/Visual Team is actively seeking volunteers. No experience is necessary and the technology is easy to learn. If you can listen to a room, we can teach you this new skill. Our A/V team rotates the responsibility for handling the amplification and recording of Sunday services and special events. If this sounds like something you wish you could do, please talk to Lou, Chris, or Jim or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more. Thank you!
Welcome Table Associates
We now have four associates but would like to add two to four more to share duties. Welcome Table Associates set up the welcome area before our Sunday morning service, create and handout name tags to new and returning visitors as they arrive, and assist visitors by answering questions. When the service begins, associates determine how many people are in attendance and at the end they collect information cards, refresh the cards in the pews, and put away the name tags. Two associates help our Welcome Table Coordinator each Sunday. If you can help, please speak with those at the table or e-mail email@example.com.
We have begun building this team, but would still like to find a few more people to help our Hospitality Coordinator on a rotating basis on Sunday mornings. Team members only need to help out once a month. We’d also like to train several people how to make coffee to act as “fill-ins,” only to be called up in special circumstances when needed. A team member helps our coordinator to make the coffee and set up the refreshments table before our service, staffs the refreshments table during coffee hour, and helps clean-up at the end of coffee hour. If you can be part of this team, please talk to Sam Hodges or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Usher Coordinator & Ushers
The Usher Coordinator ensures that services are adequately staffed with ushers. Our Ushers prepare the area and greet people as they arrive. They pass out orders of service, accommodate seating issues, collect offerings, and at the end of the service, document the money collected. Contact Janice Wentz at email@example.com with questions or comments.
Greeter Coordinator & Greeters
Our goal is to have two Greeters on hand as part of a rotating team to assist our Welcome Table in helping new arrivals. Unlike our Ushers or Welcome Table Associates, Greeters are mobile, available to show newcomers our facilities or to reach out and connect people, both before the service and afterwards in Shephard Hall. Greeters provide a welcoming presence, making and facilitating introductions between people. If you can help, please talk with Judy Pearce or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Checking out books from the UUFS Rolling Library is quite simple: there is a clipboard on the cart with some check-out sheets, and all you need to do is to fill out details regarding the book you wish to check out and your contact information. Books can be taken out for 2 weeks at a time, but really, I will pester you to bring them back only if someone else wants the exact same book that you took. And even then, it will only be friendly email reminders!
Our book collection is cataloged at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/UUFS, and new books keep getting added there. Your donations to the library are welcome, and many of you have been so kind to pass on some really wonderful books. I’d like to request that you please give your donations to me personally at coffee hour so that I can catalog them straight away. If you just left them on the cart without me knowing then they could get mixed up with books that have already been cataloged, and also, I would miss the opportunity to have a friendly chat with you, introduce myself and get to know you better. Please know that no donations will be turned away, so please drop the hesitation and the procrastination and bring me your bag-loads! By the way, we are hunting in earnest for kids’ books, so if you have any, please bring them to me as soon as possible to earn my eternal gratitude!
