Long-time UUFS member, Ursula Gobets, will be speaking about her recently published memoir, “Changes, Challenges, Choices…and A Lot of Luck.”
Born in Berlin in 1926, Ursula (Uschi) lived during the Nazi years, through Germany’s depression and recovery to World War II’s utter defeat, destruction and aftermath. Shortly after the blockade and airlift of West Berlin in 1948/49, she immigrated to USA. She tells of her life in her new country, of marriage, family and moving with her family from New York to Sunnyvale, CA in 1956, where she and her husband, Arthur, bought the house which is still her home. Her memoir ends in 1961, her 35th year which, she feels, marks the end of her immigrant years and the beginning of a more typical American life.
