The Life Enrichment Team sets goals, objectives, and philosophy for the adult Life Enrichment programs it establishes. Programs are offered on a wide variety of topics in support of our congregation’s spiritual growth, search for meaning, enjoyment of life, building of relationships, and desire for social justice. Classes & Workshops
Classes and workshops on spirituality, theology, relationships, money, ethics, and justice may be offered at various times. Please be sure to check out what is happening at Classes & Workshops.
A UUFS Covenant Group is a group of six to twelve members and experienced facilitators who meet twice a month. Covenant Group meetings have a worship service format, the heart of which is sharing our lives. The goals of the Group are to care for its members, to encourage spiritual growth, and to meet the needs for affirmation and acceptance. Spiritual growth includes deepening our understanding of Unitarian Universalist principles and values and expressing them in the community. Covenant Groups rely on shared leadership, confidentiality, and each member’s commitment to participate. In addition to regular meetings, each Covenant Group periodically performs a service project. Please note that a Covenant Group is not a discussion group or a therapy group. (In some UU congregations the concept of Covenant Groups is known as Small Group Ministry.) For more information see our Covenant Group Topics page or send an e-mail to email@example.com. Covenant Group meeting material is available for general use.
The Genesis Group meets on the first Wednesday of every month and engages in discussions on a variety of topics including religion, politics and the environment. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
This Insight Meditation group is held weekly on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Beautiful Space* off the Sanctuary. Beginners and experienced meditators alike are welcome. The evening begins with guided meditation (via podcast) to calm the mind and the body, and to encourage insight into our thoughts and feelings. After a brief check-in, we listen to a Dharma talk (via podcast) about Insight Meditation practice, sharing our responses as they arise. Facilitators are Karin Golde and Erika Hulse. Weekly attendance is encouraged, though not required. Contact email@example.com with any questions.
The Meditation Group, usually six to twelve people, meets each Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Beautiful Space* off the Sanctuary. A different person each week chooses the dharma topic and reads from books or other writings, one reading before each of two 20-minute sitting meditations. We conclude with tea and thoughtful conversation. We gather together to provide a calm and quiet space in which we listen deeply and speak respectfully. The group is open to all regardless of experience. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Men’s Group meets twice a month for discussion and conversation. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for socializing, informal discussion and support. A meeting of the group consists of a check-in time during which members share what is happening in their lives, a social time with a snack, tea and coffee and then a previously chosen topic is discussed. The group meets in the Sanctuary. All sharing is confidential. For more information, contact email@example.com.
Play Reading Group
The UUFS Play Reading Group meets two Sundays in a row in order to complete a play, and then skips a month. We meet from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. after the coffee hour at church in room 7. Watch our calendar for upcoming dates. We have read plays such as Harvey and The Mousetrap and Arcadia with playwrights such as Agatha Christie, Tom Stoppard, and Noel Coward. We sight-read all of the plays, each person taking one or more characters. Copies of plays are provided and no previous experience is required. We welcome UU members, friends and guests to come join us any time. Questions? Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Social Action Book Group
The UUFS Social Action Book Group meets regularly to discuss books on the topic of social justice and social action. The group decides which books to read, choosing from titles recommended from within the group or those being read by the online Justice and Spirit UU Book Club. If you wish to join in, watch our Recommended Reading page to find out the date for our next meeting and the title of the book we will be discussing. Contact the group’s facilitator, Janine Reed, at email@example.com with any questions.
Also, if you purchase books through our Recommended Reading page, UUFS will receive a donation from Amazon.
Women’s Book Group
The Women’s Book Group meets at 10:00 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month except in November and December. (In November we meet on the third Thursday of the month to avoid conflict with Thanksgiving.) This group has spirited discussions of books, both fiction and nonfiction, nominated by those who attend. Meetings are held at members’ homes. See our Recommended Reading page for more information, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Women’s Group meets once a month on the fourth Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at different members’ homes. Please contact email@example.com with any questions. New members are welcome.
*Note: The Beautiful Space is in the northeast corner of the Sanctuary, accessible from the outside through the large doors near Remington.
