Life Enrichment

Programs are offered on a wide variety of topics in support of our congregation’s spiritual growth, search for meaning, enjoyment of life, building of relationships, and desire for social justice. Groups are meeting remotely via Zoom during the Covid-19 pandemic. Attendance is open and newcomers are welcome.

Book Group

The Book Group meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from 1:00–3:00 p.m. except in November and December. (In November we meet on the third Thursday of the month to avoid conflict with Thanksgiving.)  This group has spirited discussions of books, both fiction and nonfiction, nominated by those who attend. We are currently meeting online via Zoom. See our Recommended Reading page for more information, or contact book.group@uufs.org.

Climate Action Team (CAT)

The Climate Action Team is not currently meeting independently, but has been rolled into our Social Justice Team meetings. For more information, or if this is an activity you have an interest in, please contact our Social Justice Coordinator at social.justice@uufs.org.

Covenant Groups

We are gauging interest in creating a new Covenant Group (or Groups). A Covenant Group is a group of six to ten members led by experienced facilitators who are members of our Fellowship community. The goals of the Group are to care for its members, to encourage spiritual growth, and to meet needs for affirmation and acceptance. Covenant Groups rely on shared leadership, confidentiality, and each member’s commitment to participate.

Please note that a Covenant Group is not a discussion group or a therapy group. (In some UU congregations the concept of Covenant Groups is known as “Small Group Ministry.”) If you are interested in participating, or just want more information, contact covenant.groups@uufs.org. Click here for examples of past Covenant Group Topics.

Meditation Group

The Meditation Group meets each Thursday morning from 8:30–9:30 a.m., currently via Zoom. A different person each week chooses the dharma topic and reads from books or other writings, one reading before each of two 20-minute sitting meditations. We gather together to provide a calm and quiet space in which we listen deeply and speak respectfully. The group is open to all regardless of experience. Please read our Statement of Purpose to learn more about our commitment to each other. For more information send an email to meditation@uufs.org.

Men’s Group

The Men’s Group meets every Tuesday evening from 7:15–8:15 p.m. for discussion and conversation. The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for socializing, informal discussion and support. A meeting of the group consists of a check-in time during which members share what is happening in their lives and a previously chosen topic is discussed. The group meets online via Zoom. All sharing is confidential. For more information, contact mens.group@uufs.org.

Women’s Group

The Women’s Group meets on the second and fourth Mondays on Zoom from 2:00–3:00 p.m. This is a supportive and friendly group where our bi-monthly check-in leads to general discussion and helpful input and warm friendships prosper. Please contact womens.group@uufs.org with any questions. New members are welcome.

Please send corrections and updates to communications@UUFS.org. Thank you.
